About CIPG
Founded in October 1949, China Foreign Languages Publishing and Distribution Administration, also known as China International Publishing Group (CIPG), prides itself on being China’s largest publisher and distributor of foreign language publications. The volume of books, periodicals, audio and video products, and website services produced everyyear by CIPG has made it possible to present readers worldwide with a remarkable volume and range of helpful information about China. CIPG consists of seven publishing houses (Foreign Languages Press, New World Press, Morning Glory Publishers, Sinolingua, China Pictorial Publishing House, Dolphin Books, New Star Publishers) and five periodicals (Beijing Review, China Today, People’s Pictorial, People’s China, and El Popola Cinio). Each year it publishes in 20 languages more than 2,000 book titles, 21 printed periodicals and 25 online journals, which are distributed in over 100 countries and regions by China International Book Trading Corporation, a CIPG subsidiary.

Entrusted by the Ministry of Personnel, CIPG’s affiliated National Translation Test and Appraisal Center assumes the responsibility of organizing and implementing the China Aptitude Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI).

Foreign Languages Press
Founded in 1952, this general-interest publishing house produces the greatest number and diversity of foreign language publications in China. Printed and electronic books from FLP cover subject areas as diverse as politics, economy, law, literature, arts, travel, traditional Chinese medicine, health, and sports, in a variety of languages including English, French, Spanish, German, Chinese. Its books are distributed in more than 100 countries and regions. Over the decades, FLP has translated or compiled up to 600 titles, including Chinese classics, an impressive number of works written by party and state leaders and other historically important document., as well as numerous books and albums introducing Chinese culture and other national features. A National Major Foreign Language Periodical, China Today was founded in 1952 under the name of China Reconstructs by Soong Ching Ling, wife of Sun Yat-sen and a former honorary president of China. It is the only multi-language, general-interest monthly in China oriented to overseas readerships. The magazine is at present available in printed editions in Chinese, English, French, Spanish and Arabic, and online editions in Chinese, English, French, Spanish, Arabic and German. Known as Italic in its foreign language editions, the magazine Italic was launched in 1950 to become the first Chinese pictorial to boast a large-scale operation and a comprehensive coverage. First published in 1950, the Esperanto monthly El Popola Cinio has been endeavoring to give Esperanto speakers worldwide a special window.China and to build up a bond of friendship with them. In the year 2000, the Esperanto edition of the magazine became electronic, and a Chinese version was inaugurated. The latter chiefly addresses economic subjects, aiming to show the achievements of China’s reform and opening policy and the fruits of its economic construction. The magazine is also entrusted with the administration of All-China Esperanto League and editing its journal La Monde.

Formerly called China International Book Store after it was founded in 1949, the company is one of China’s largest book import and export agencies.
